What Does It Take to Get This Angel Investor To

Write The First Check?

Robert Gailus is an experienced venture investor and advisor. He was a founding member in 1983 of Schroder Ventures / U.S., the venture affiliate of Schroders, the London merchant bank. During 1983-1993, Bob was one of four partners, initially in Silicon Valley and then New York City that managed $92 million and made 53 venture investments. Eight of the 22 IT investments and 10 of the 13 bio/healthcare companies became publicly traded companies (including Opcom/VMX (original voicemail patents) which merged with Octel and was acquired by Lucent for $1.3B in stock; and Stratacom which commercialized fast-packet switching and was acquired by CICSO for $3B in stock). In 1994 Bob founded Software Technology Venture Partners ("STVP") in New York City to invest in and advise IT companies in the Boston to NYC corridor, and in 2000 Bob joined with Bob Levenson, a successful entrepreneur and Fortune 500 operating executive (ADP, Medco and First Data Corp.), and formed LENOX Capital Group, L.L.C., to invest in early-stage IT technology and service companies. Since 1994, he has invested in 14 early-stage ventures. Five of the companies (DynamicWeb, VIE Systems, Epicon, ServiceSoft and SolidWorks) have become public through acquisition, and a sixth has filed its registration for an IPO. Mr. Gailus became a member of the NY Angels (who typically invest between $250K and $750K) in the spring of 2005 and has invested in two companies since then: Spotlight Data and International Strategies.
