Bestselling book that offers a thesis as to why some companies achieve a higher level of success was written by, Jim Collins, a faculty member of Stanford University Graduate School of Business. He and his research team analyzed the performance of publicly traded companies over a fifteen year period, attempting to identify factors for success that separate the high performing companies from the pack. They found factors both present and missing that contributed to a company?s success.
The observer business owner or business manager benefits from the discussion of these factors for success which touch upon leadership, teamwork, company values and other areas. Particularly interesting to the business executive is the leadership attributes that may promote or hinder company performance, as well as the “Culture of Discipline” as defined by the author.
Though the latter part of the book delves into much of the research used to support their thesis, the book is a fairly quick read, providing interesting thoughts on areas as proposed by the author that when developed correctly yield great results.
