Serving as a catalyst for science and research to connect with entrepreneurial opportunities, Dan Conley of NJ Angels.net hosted researchers, entrepreneurs and venture industry experts at the Hyatt in New Brunswick on December 21st. Using a workshop format, Dan?s event serves to assist scientists and researchers through the early stages of the commercialization process at a time when finding funding for their venture is their primary goal. Attendees possess a range of expertise from the New Jersey science and entrepreneurial communities who offer feedback and information to the aspiring entrepreneurs presenting their venture plans.At this past month?s event venture presenters included Eric Ahlfors of Total Record, Inc., Dr. Mo Heideran of Celgene Cellular Therapeutices, Hamilton Thorne Bio and Immune Target. Total Record based in Worcester Massachusetts focuses on regenerating lost functionality of injured and degenerating central nervous system tissue, achieving patented technologies including the Regeneration Matrix and Tran-Neural Implant. Mr. Ahlfors founded his first venture, New World Laboratories at the age of 25 and at the age of 28 has been given an O-1 visa, which is reserved for individuals who have risen to the top of their field of endeavor. Also presenting were Hsioi-Chi Liou of Immune Target, an associate professor in the Programs of Immunology and Cell Biology at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University. Immune Target is focusing on the commercialization of Neuronal Protectors and Immune Blockers which their research has shown application to autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis. Well integrated throughout the day were academic and industry experts who presented on topics such as Interdisciplinary & Inter-institutional Collaboration by Roger Cubicciotti and Gabriel Milton, Executive Director of the NJ Commission on Spinal Cord Research.
